Advanced Dental Care + Project Independence

September 8, 2016

Advanced Dental Care + Project IndependenceProject Independence

Serving the needs of Orange County Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Throughout the year, Advanced Dental Care takes pride in supporting and bringing awareness to local organizations doing AMAZING things in our communities.  We learned about Project Independence through our fellow Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce friend and Project Independence’s Director of Development, Todd Eckert!  Todd became a patient of Dr. Jeremy Jorgenson’s and over time we got the pleasure of learning more about him and his organization.

Project Independence (PI) is a nonprofit organization founded right here in Orange County, CA in 1977!  The organization is based just down the road from us in Costa Mesa.  Project Indepedence focuses on helping people with developmental disabilities live independent and productive lives by securing jobs and housing for the clients.  The Core Programs include:

Advanced Dental Care’s School Supply Drive

August 10, 2016

CAAHF and Advanced Dental Care

Annual School Supply Drive

For all of us at Advanced Dental Care, being leaders in our community is really important to us.  We are always looking for ways to be involved in Costa Mesa and our neighboring Orange County communities.  A few years ago we saw a school supply drive on Instagram from a local nonprofit called Chava’s Angels At Heart Foundation (CAAHF).  We immediately reached out to the organization and were contacted by the founder of Chava’s Angels, Nadia Flores.

Chavas Angels At Heart Foundation Santa Ana

CAAHF‘s mission is to provide quality services to at-risk youths, at-risk young adults, and low-income families.  CAAHF is committed to education, exposing, and ensuring client success.  One important program that CAAHF puts on each August is a School Supply Drive for Santa Ana students.  According to CAAHF, the Santa Ana Unified School District has approximately 56,000 students of which 91% qualify for free or reduced meals.

Back to School Supplies

For the last two years, Advanced Dental Care has been a proud supporter of Chava’s Angels.  We are again hosting our in-office School Supply Drive and striving  to outdo the number of school supply donations we received last year (a whole carload full!!).

This year we’ve already filled once box in our lobby and have had generous donations mailed to us from all over the country!  Wow!  We are always amazed at the generosity of our patients, family, and friends!

National Heart Health Month

February 3, 2016

Advanced Dental Care is partnering with the American Heart Association this February to celebrate National Heart Month!

All month long we will be bringing awareness of heart health and the link to your oral health.  Maintaining good oral health can directly affect your heart health and vice versa.  Sometimes we see that if a patient presents with active periodontal disease, they also have been diagnosed with high blood pressure or another heart disease.  This is because the body is a system, and every subsystem is interconnected.

One of the main indicators of our oral and overall health is our gums.  Regular exams by your dentist and hygienist can help detect abnormalities early on.  Periodontal disease, for example, progresses in stages and when caught early can be treated more easily.

Gum Disease costa mesa caWhen bacteria builds up on teeth and migrates below the gum line, the bacteria can irritate the gums causing early stage periodontal disease.  When left untreated by a dental professional, the disease can quickly and easily progress to more advanced stages creating pockets.  Pockets above 3mm in depth are cause for concern.  Like all dental disorders, the sooner the condition can be treated, the better case for successful recovery.
