As many of you know, ADC Cares is an extension of Advanced Dental Care that exists to serve our patients, our community, and those we’ve never even met! We’ve participated in many community events this year such as raising money for Costa Mesa, raising money for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District, Oral Cancer Awareness, Heart Disease Awareness, Alzheimer’s Awareness, and a Food Drive for Second Harvest Food Bank.
Now it’s December and this year we wanted to do something different. We’ve partnered with the Families Helping Families Agency and adopted the Garza Family! We’re helping this family of four get the things they need and want for the holiday season. We all get down on tough times and sometimes we just need a helping hand!
Families Helping Families
Families Helping Families is a program of the Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center. The Families Helping Families program connects families in desperate situations facing abuse and neglect with caring members of the community to help bring stability to the home for the holidays. The program aims to 1) ease the burden of meeting basic needs so families can focus on breaking the cycle of abuse; 2) help those facing abuse on the road to healing, health, and hope, and 3) positively impact the lives of children in our community.
The Garza Family is run by mom Veronica! She is the single mother of three kids: Cynthia (18), Ernesto (16), and Diego (11). Veronica works full time, including the weekends, just to make ends meet. They are living paycheck to paycheck and she is still unable to afford basic needs such as hygiene, underwear, socks, or warm clothes. This family has endured many struggles as Veronica took her kids and escaped from domestic violence, one of which has incarcerated the father. Furthermore, the father continued to attempt to harass them, but Veronica has learned empowerment and has protected her children well. Through the program training and services she has received from CAPC, Veronica has worked to improve her family’s conditions and oriented them to work together. As the holiday seasons arrive, Veronica is unable to afford gifts as well as basic essentials. It would be amazing for them to be adopted so to help provide for them and to spur them on with hope to push forward into the future.
