3 Tips for your Best Smile

Guest Blog by Sarah Mack Photography

Our patient and best photographer in Costa Mesa shares her favorite tips for capturing your best smile in photos for all of your special events!

Don’t forget to check out more of Sarah’s work at www.sarahmackphoto.com!

Tip 1: Get Goofy!

The photos you will love and cherish for a lifetime are those candid moments that you are truly in the moment having a great time! How you felt when you were taking the photo can be just as important as how you look.  Don’t be afraid to get silly! Little giggles or full on belly laugh are the best moments! I ask my clients do all sorts of fun and silly things, to keep them moving and having fun! More often than not, these are the photos that they hang in their homes to bring them joy every single day.

Tip 2: Treat yourself to a Teeth Whitening

Dr. Jeremy Jorgenson - Costa Mesa Dentist - Emergency Dentist - Saturday Dentist - Dental Crowns - Dental Bridges - Dental Implants - Invisalign - Veneers - Teeth Whitening

Nothing makes a smiles shine more than bright pearly whites. Don’t be afraid to show those chompers! Getting a teeth whitening the week before your session insures you will have full confidence that your smile shines as bright as you feel.

Tip 3: Choose a lip color that makes your Smile Pop!

Choosing blue based tones rather than orange reds make your teeth gleam! It all has to do with the color wheel. Blue is the exact opposite of yellow, so the visual effect of a red shade with a blue bass helps to make your teeth seem whiter.

When choosing a lipstick, remember that orange and yellow hues tend to bring that same color out in you teeth. Stay away from pinks and reds with an orangy tint.Sarah Mack - Sarah Mack Photography - Costa Mesa Photography - Costa Mesa photographer - wedding photographer - engagement photographer - baby photographer - Advanced Dental Care - Costa Mesa dentist

Darker colors like plum and deep red make for a beautiful contrast to make your pearly whites pop!

If you prefer lighter pinks, lean towards a version with a berry hue, rather than a peachy hue.

The Season for Giving – our favorite time of year!

As if creating beautiful, healthy smiles wasn’t enough, we also get to be a part of such a wonderful community in Orange County that offers so many opportunities to give back.  It’s important to Dr. Jerey Jorgenson and our entire Costa Mesa dental staff to serve and to give whenever possible.  The holidays hold a particularly special meaning, because it is the time for gathering with family and friends and spreading holiday cheer.

And although it is a joyful time for our family, the holidays may not be an easy time for everyone.  It’s important to reach out to others to learn how you can help.  During this Season for Giving, we encourage you to reach out to one of the many local organizations that help others in our community.  This Christmas we have partnered with South County Outreach in Orange County who helped us adopt the Badrak family.

How You Can Help

We would love your support in helping to make the Badrak family have the most spectacular Christmas possible this year.  Clothing, gift cards, gift certificates, toiletries, home and kitchen items, and other Christmas gifts for the family are greatly appreciated!

Please bring items for the family to our Costa Mesa dental office located at 3033 Bristol St. Ste. AA, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 by 5:00pm on Friday, December 14th.

New and existing patients will receive a $20 account credit for any donation!

How do I know if I have a cavity?

Cavity treatment in Costa Mesa

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), tooth decay is the second most prevalent health condition in the U.S. after the common cold.  If you’ve never had a cavity, great work!  However, it’s very likely that at some point in your life you will develop at least one.

How will you know if you have a cavity? Just because you aren’t experiencing any pain doesn’t mean everything is fine and dandy.  You could have active decay that is in the early stages and may be able to be reversed with professional dental care.  Tooth decay exhibits a variety of symptoms depending on the severity of your tooth decay.

Symptoms of a Cavity

best dentist costa mesa - emergency dentist costa mesa - cosmetic dentist costa mesa - dental implants costa mesa - dentist near me - dentist open now - saturday dentist - ppo dentist - delta dental - teeth whitening - dental veneers - laser dentistry - invisalign - tooth pain - cavity - dental crown - root canal - toothache - staining

• Nothing (best time to catch decay in the early stages)
• Continuous or spontaneous tooth pain
• Tooth sensitivity
• Pain (dull or sharp) when eating something sweet, hot, or cold
• Visible staining on the surface of your tooth which may appear brown, black, or white
• Visible holes in your tooth (the holes are likely cavities)
• Pain when chewing or biting your teeth down together

What to do if you have a cavity?

best dentist costa mesa - emergency dentist costa mesa - cosmetic dentist costa mesa - dental implants costa mesa - dentist near me - dentist open now - saturday dentist - ppo dentist - delta dental - teeth whitening - dental veneers - laser dentistry - invisalign - tooth pain - cavity - dental crown - root canal - toothache - staining

A quick exam at our Costa Mesa dental office will let you know the best course of treatment for your particular situation. The recommendation could be as simple as a “watch” with recommendations for home care to fluoride treatment.

If the decay is more pervasive or you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, Dr. Jeremy Jorgenson may recommend treatment for the cavity.  Treatment options could include a composite (tooth-colored) filling for moderate decay.  If the decay is covering many surfaces of the tooth or has affected deeper layers of the tooth a dental crown may be recommended.

best dentist costa mesa - emergency dentist costa mesa - cosmetic dentist costa mesa - dental implants costa mesa - dentist near me - dentist open now - saturday dentist - ppo dentist - delta dental - teeth whitening - dental veneers - laser dentistry - invisalign - tooth pain - cavity - dental crown - root canal - toothache - stainingIn more severe situations, the decay can reach the pulp which houses the nerves and blood vessels of the tooth.  Once decay has gotten this far a root canal and dental crown would likely be the recommended treatment.  If decay has completely destroyed the tooth or if the infection is too pervasive the tooth may not be savable and might have to be extracted.

How to prevent a cavity?

You can help prevent the damaging effects of plaque and tartar at home by brushing twice a day with a soft bristled toothbrush, using a toothpaste with fluoride, and flossing at least once a day.  Additional preventative measures include eating a well-balanced diet, rinsing after meals if you can’t brush, and asking your dentist about fluoride treatment.  Most importantly, seeing your dentist at regularly prescribed visits can determine if the above measures are effective for you.

Importance of Routine Dental Visits

Obviously, the best time to catch a cavity would be in the early stages, when there are few, if any, symptoms (trust us on this one).

That’s why the American Dental Association (ADA) and dental professionals stress the importance of maintaining regular visits to your dentist.  Although we are always here when you need us, we don’t want to get into the habit of only seeing you when you are in pain!

At each visit to our office, we will continue to evaluate whether we need to see you every 3, 4 or 6 months in order to ensure you are maintaining good oral hygiene.

You can always schedule an appointment by calling/texting us at   (714) 424-9099, by email at info@mycostamesadentist.com, or by clicking “Book An Appointment“.

Back-to-School – Smile Smart Tips

August 14, 2018

Smile Smart Tips for Success!

Going back-to-school is bittersweet for both parents and students.  No one wants summer to end, but students enjoy going back to school to see their friends again, getting back into school sports, and moving one step closer to graduation!

Even though going back-to-school is an exciting time, students can experience anxiety.  Anxiety can interfere with sleep, wellness, and performance.  But don’t worry!  We’ve compiled some smile smart tips to help you smoothly transition back into the school year.

Smile Smart Tip # 1

Of course our first tip is to complete your dental exam and x-rays, and cleaning, before school starts.  These services are often covered at 100% by dental insurance.  Nothing can distract students more than throbbing, achy tooth pain that requires an emergency dental visit. Make sure your dental health is an A+ for academic success!

Smile Smart Tip # 2

Our second tip is to get enough sleep.  The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends:

  • 9-12 hours for school-age children
  • 8-10 hours for teens
  • 7 or more hours for adults

Not getting restful sleep?  Schedule a consultation for Sleep Apnea or Bruxism.  A custom sleep device to treat sleep apnea can improve sleep quality and reduce chances for heart disease or stroke.  A custom nightguard to prevent grinding that can cause poor sleep, headaches, and aggrevated TMJ.

best dentist costa mesa - emergency dentist costa mesa - cosmetic dentist costa mesa - dental implants costa mesa - dentist near me - dentist open now - saturday dentist - ppo dentist - delta dental - teeth whitening - dental veneers - laser dentistry - invisalignSmile Smart Tip # 3

Our third tip is to choose healthy food and drinks to feel your best and keep your teeth strong and healthy.  Avoid drinks with color additives, sugar, carbonation, or acid to protect against decay and erosion.  Choose foods with calcium, minerals like cheese, yogurt, almonds, leafy greens, and carrots.

Smile Smart Tip # 4

Our fourth tip is to protect your smile during school sports.  An injury can cause broken teeth, dead teeth, and even permanent tooth loss.  Consider a custom athletic mouthguard for school sports in your school colors!

Smile Smart Tip # 5

Brush and floss for at least 2 minutes twice a day to maintain good oral hygiene between dental visits.  Choose a soft bristled toothbrush making circular motions at a 45 degree angle and waxed floss or flosser picks to get the areas in between teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach.

Dentist in Costa Mesa Says Reduce Stress for Back to School

July 31, 2017

Our dentist in Costa Mesa provides children’s dentistry. We love back to school season at Advanced Dental Care — but we also know kids’ dental health can get a little out of whack during August and September. Bruxism, or nighttime teeth grinding, may occur as your child starts to adjust their sleeping schedules to wake up early again. As your child gets back into the figurative grind, make sure their teeth aren’t getting into one, too. Learn more about preventing stress and associated bruxism in this week’s blog post from your dentist in Costa Mesa, Dr. Jeremy B. Jorgenson!

Are you brushing too hard

February 24, 2016

Brushing our teeth at least two minutes, twice a day is one of the most effective methods for maintaining good oral health in between visits to the dentist.  Proper brushing technique is equally important to ensure effectiveness and to prevent any damage to the enamel and gums.

Brushing too hard can lead to:

  • Sensitivity
  • Gum recession
  • Worn Enamel
  • Bleeding8820d3b511a814421cb4f3f5cdabff0b
  • Red, swollen gums

How to prevent brushing too hard?

If you use a manual toothbrush, we highly suggest you use a soft-bristled toothbrush.   Even better, we offer two fantastic toothbrushes at Advanced Dental Care: Sonicare and Oral-B.  Our RDH Lisa Thurm prefers the Oral B Professional 5000.  The round toothbrush head allows for easy access to all surfaces of the tooth and the rotating bristles work effectively to remove plaque and tartar.
