Family Dentist Helping Families

Giving, volunteering, and donating are all things our family dentist, Dr. Jeremy Jorgenson, and our team do year-round, but these things are extra special to us during the holidays. Perhaps it’s because we know how tough the holidays can be for those who are less fortunate or don’t have family or friends surrounding them. That’s why it is more important than ever to spread our love and kindness and smiles! One organization that we partner with is the Child Abuse Prevention Center of OC and their Families Helping Families initiative. Each year we adopt a family that have been victims of domestic abuse or neglect.

On behalf of all of the Advanced Dental Care staff and Dr. Jeremy Jorgenson, Costa Mesa Dentist, we want to send the biggest thank you and gratitude to our loyal and amazing patients! In the last three years, our dental practice has grown so much. It has been an amazing journey thus far. Our dental team has tripled in size and are seeing more patients than ever. Tooth Pain can be a PAIN, but there is a reason why our bodies try to notify us that something is wrong. Tooth pain can be an indication of infection, irritation, injury, or decay. It can be lingering, persistent, sharp, dull, off and on, but just altogether awful!

When you experience tooth pain, it is best to get a professional opinion to ensure that you address dental issues immediately. Waiting for tooth pain to go away on its own will undoubtedly lead to a more complex, and sometimes more costly, treatment later.

Anatomy of a Tooth

To explain tooth pain, you should first know more about how a tooth is structured. infected-inflamed-pulp-tissue

The tooth is composed of layers. The outermost layer, the enamel, is the hardest layer and the first defense in protecting the inner pulp or root from decay and infection.

A variety of factors including poor oral hygiene habits, lack of regular dental exams, diet, genetics, etc., all play a role in slowly eroding the protective enamel later. As the enamel erodes, the softer, more sensitive layers inside the tooth become exposed. Some patients experience pain with little to no enamel erosion and others don’t feel anything until the decay or infection has reached all the way down to the pulp or root.

This is why regular dental visits are so important. Your dentist can inform you about decay or infection before it reaches the point of severe pain, or worse, more invasive, costly dental procedures that are required to try to save your tooth. The worst outcome, of course, is loss of the tooth completely.

Treating Your Periodontal Disease

Don’t worry! The most important thing is knowing about your condition and having a knowledgeable and experienced dental team to get your gums back to optimal health! The Advanced Dental Care team in Costa Mesa, CA has the solutions for you!

Periodontal Disease is an active bacterial infection of the gum tissue in our mouth. Once bacteria has burrowed in between our gum tissue and teeth it begins to flourish. This bacteria inflames our gums and eats away at the bone holding our teeth in place. No good! Left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to more systemic inflammation, infections, and eventual tooth loss. At Advanced Dental Care, we provide same day diagnosis and treatment of Periodontal Disease. This may include a combination of Scaling and Root Planing (SRP), Laser Bacterial Reduction (LBR), and Oral Irrigation.
